On Monday, the 29th of April 2024, a somber mood enveloped the House of Representatives Southeast Caucus as the deputy speaker, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, led members on a condolence visit to the families of two distinguished Igbo leaders – the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Senator Ayogu Eze.
These two individuals, who had made significant contributions to the political landscape of Nigeria, were mourned and celebrated for their exemplary lives and service to the nation.
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, a Nigerian politician, author, and engineer, was remembered as a man of impeccable character who had served admirably in various leadership roles. As the first civilian governor of Abia State, Dr. Onu had left a lasting legacy of excellence and dedication to public service.

Senator Ayogu Eze, on the other hand, was hailed as an astute parliamentarian and a leader dedicated to serving the people.
His contributions to the legislative process and his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents were recognized and appreciated by all who knew him.
Senator Eze's passion for good governance and his advocacy for the betterment of society were qualities that endeared him to many.
As the members of the House of Representatives Southeast Caucus, along with stakeholders of Igboland and members of the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P), paid their respects to the families of these two great leaders, they expressed their deep sorrow at the loss of such distinguished individuals.
However, they also found solace in the legacies that Dr. Onu and Senator Eze had left behind. Their integrity, wisdom, and dedication to service would continue to inspire and guide future generations of leaders.
In this time of mourning, the thoughts and prayers of all those present were with the families and loved ones of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Senator Ayogu Eze. May the Almighty grant them the strength and fortitude to bear their loss and may the souls of these great leaders rest in perfect peace.
