On Friday, 26th April, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, delivered a powerful and thought-provoking keynote address on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, at the National Integration Conference organized by The Kukah Center in Abuja.

In his address, Rt hon Kalu emphasized the importance of Nigeria's diversity in ethnicity, language, and religion, stating that it offers a remarkable asset for the nation, significantly enhancing global diplomatic and economic relations.

He stressed that it is crucial for us to understand the power of leveraging this pluralism to propel the nation towards a more unified and prosperous future, where the collective strengths of its diverse population are fully harnessed

.

It is no secret that Nigeria is a country rich in diversity, with over 250 ethnic groups and more than 520 languages. With such diversity comes great potential, but also challenges.

Rt Hon Kalu acknowledged that the House of Representatives is aware of these challenges and is committed to addressing them.

He stated that the House is poised to prioritize National Integration and that this will be reflected in the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The theme of the National Integration Conference, organized by The Kukah Center, was "Unity in Diversity: Nigeria's National Identity and the Challenges of Nation-Building."

In his address, Rt Hon Kalu commended the center for convening such a critical event, emphasizing the importance of fostering a cohesive society from our diverse identities.

He stressed that this issue requires the attention and collective efforts of all Nigerians.

The Deputy Speaker's address further highlighted the need for unity in diversity in our nation. He emphasized that diversity is not a weakness, but a strength that should be celebrated and utilized to promote understanding, tolerance, and harmony among Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians to see diversity as an opportunity for growth and development, rather than a source of division.
Rt Hon Kalu's address at the National Integration Conference is a testament to the House of Representatives' commitment to promoting national unity, integration, and cohesion.

It also reflects the government's efforts to foster a more inclusive and united Nigeria. By prioritizing National Integration in the ongoing review of the constitution, the House of Representatives is taking a proactive step towards addressing the challenges that impede our nation's unity.

Let me conclude by saying that the speech delivered by Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu at the National Integration Conference serves as a reminder to all Nigerians about the importance of embracing our diversity and using it as a tool for progress.

It is a call to action for all citizens to work together towards building a unified and prosperous nation.

As we continue on this journey to perfect cohesion, let us remember the words of Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, "Our diversity is our strength, and together, we can achieve greatness as a nation."
