On Thursday, May 9th, 2024, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, graced the Europe Day celebration organized by the European Union (EU) in Nigeria. 

This event, held in the bustling city of Abuja, was a testament to the strong and longstanding partnership between the EU and Nigeria.

The EU and Nigeria have a deep and historical relationship, stretching back for decades. Over the years, this partnership has flourished and expanded across a wide range of sectors, including trade, culture, education, technology, peace, migration, and governance. 


Through this collaboration, both parties have built enduring connections that have brought shared prosperity and progress to their citizens.

In his goodwill message delivered on behalf of the House of Representatives, Rt hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu expressed deep appreciation to the EU for their continuous support in building institutional capacity through various initiatives and trainings. 

This support has undoubtedly contributed to the growth and development of Nigeria, particularly in the areas of governance and governance-related institutions.


The Deputy Speaker highlighted the commitment of Nigeria to deepening its ties with Europe and exploring new opportunities for partnerships. 

This unwavering dedication to mutual cooperation and collaboration has been instrumental in strengthening the relationship between both parties. It is a testament to Nigeria's determination to contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous world.

As the EU and Nigeria continue to work closely together, they are set to achieve even greater milestones and successes in the future. 


This partnership has already yielded positive results, such as increased trade and investment, cultural exchanges, and knowledge sharing.

Moreover, the EU has been an invaluable partner in Nigeria's efforts towards sustainable development and achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

The beneficiaries of the free medical treatment were individuals who have been struggling with eye sight problems. Many of them had been living with limited or no vision, hindering their ability to work, study, and fully engage in daily activities.  However, thanks to the efforts of Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu and the Ben Kalu Foundation, their lives have been transformed.
