On Sunday July 14th, the Southeastern region of Nigeria was abuzz with excitement as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, attended the South East Stakeholders Meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State. 

This meeting was an important opportunity for the region to come together and discuss the development and future of Southeastern Nigeria.

In his remarks, Deputy Speaker Kalu expressed his gratitude to the Southeastern Governors for their unwavering commitment to the progress and development of the region. 


He also acknowledged the priority they have placed on restoring peace and security in the area. It is clear that the governors of Southeastern Nigeria are dedicated to creating an environment that promotes growth and prosperity for their people.

Deputy Speaker Kalu also highlighted the achievements of the Federal Government in various sectors of the economy and its dedication towards inclusivity. 

He emphasized that under the leadership of the APC, the National Assembly has been working tirelessly to leverage legislative interventions to reposition Southeastern Nigeria and the entire nation. 


This dedication and determination to create a better future for all is commendable.

One of the major discussions at the meeting was the efforts being made towards the creation of an additional state in the Southeast region. 

This will not only lead to further development and representation for the people, but it will also serve as a step towards equitable distribution of resources. 


Additionally, Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Kalu assured the attendees that efforts are being made for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. 

These efforts demonstrate the commitment of the APC to promote inclusivity and unity in the region.

Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Kalu emphasized the importance of the Southeast aligning with the Federal Government, stating that it is non-negotiable. 


He called on all Southeasterners to show their support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the efforts being made for the betterment of the region. 

He encouraged everyone to remember the Igbo saying "Igwe bu Ike" which translates to "strength lies in unity". 

It is vital for the Southeast to come together and work towards a more prosperous future for all.


The deputy speaker also expressed his appreciation to the host of the meeting, Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his hospitality. 

He also thanked the Governor of Imo State, Chairman of Progressives Governors Forum and South East Governors Forum, H.E Sen. Hope Uzodimma, for his tireless efforts in sustaining the gains of the APC in the region and improving on its fortunes. 

It is clear that with the support and guidance of these leaders, the APC will continue to grow and strengthen in the Southeast.


In conclusion, Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu reiterated his commitment to making the APC stronger and more united in the Southeast. 

He called on all stakeholders to work together towards a better future for their region and the nation as a whole. 

This meeting was a clear indication of the determination and drive of the Southeast to continue promoting peace, unity, and development. 


With unity and collaboration, the Southeast will undoubtedly achieve great things in the years to come.

In his goodwill remarks, on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D., Rt Hon Kalu commended the ECOWAS Parliament for its immense contributions to the region.  He highlighted the Parliament’s role in strengthening representative democracy, promoting and defending human rights, upholding the rule of law, and promoting good governance in the sub-region.
