ABA RESIDENTS ARE SET TO HEAVE A SIGH OF RELIEF

The meeting which was attended by stakeholders from various Political parties, Security agents and concerned citizens was held at the Aba North local government head quarters. While speaking at the meeting, Rep Benjamin Kalu emphasized on the need for all parties involved in the election to play by the rules and shun politics of bitterness, desperation and violence. As house members decries paucity of funds...... The House of Representatives has said the National Assembly is underfund fored to function efficiently and effectively as a national parliament. The House decried that the paucity of funds has made the working environment not conducive for lawmakers while they have not been able to carry out their legislative activities to the best of their ability. The lamentation came from Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu, at his weekly media conference on Thursday. The National Assembly had a budget of N139.5bn in 2018, N125bn in 2019 and N128bn (N125bn proposed, N3bn added) in 2020. While the sum of N125bn was proposed for the National Assembly in 2021, it along with its affiliates got about N134bn. Kalu was asked if it was true that the House reduced the number of days lawmakers sit for plenary per week – from three days to one and recently two – to cut costs. Fresh ethnic tension is brewing in Anambra state as four Fulani herdsmen were reportedly shot dead in an attack on a settlement in Ogborji, Orumba South local government area . The incident which occurred on Saturday, March 6, amid the mounting farmers-herders crisis in the country also saw many cows stolen. Speaking on the development, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Southeast zone, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, said gunmen entered the camp and started shooting, leading to death. Many cows were reportedly stolen while four herders were killed in an attack on Fulani settlement in Anambra. According to him, many corpses were also taken away by the assailants in an attack that saw many cows also killed at the Mohammed Idris Herders’ Settlement.
