The Committee under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has now fixed April 30, 2024 as the new deadline. This extension is an outcome of a resolution of the House Committee on Constitution Review during its last meeting and provides additional time for stakeholders, organisations, and interested individuals to contribute their ideas and perspectives on aspects of the Constitution they want amended. One of the key criticisms of the previous act was its lack of clarity on loan purpose, eligibility criteria, application methods, repayment plans, and loan recovery.  These shortcomings hindered the effectiveness of the student loan program and limited its impact on expanding access to higher education for Nigerian youth.  The new amended act seeks to rectify these issues and provide a more sustainable approach to higher education and skill development.
