ردحذفFollowing President Bola Tinubu's signing of the SEDC bills into law, members of the House of Representatives have refuted claims by Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu of being the sole sponsor of the bill.
*The actual originators of the bill were Hon. Chukwuma Onyema (8th National Assembly) and Hon. Henry Nwawuba (9th Assembly).*
When the bill failed to pass in the 9th Assembly, *it was re-introduced in the 10th Assembly by Hon. Enwo Iduma Igariwey, Deputy Chairman of Appropriation and member representing Afikpo/Edda federal constituency.* Igariwey mobilized colleagues and obtained signatures from 43 House members, *including the Deputy Speaker, who was respectfully listed first among the sponsors*.
It's embarrassing for House members and supporters to see the Deputy Speaker claim solo sponsorship. The least expected was acknowledgment of South East Representative members' and others' efforts. Many have expressed dissatisfaction with the Deputy Speaker's claim, likening it to a football captain taking sole credit for a goal, ignoring teammates' contributions.
In teamwork, every member contributes to success, regardless of role or position. Acknowledging individual efforts strengthens team bonds and fosters unity.
