Hon Obi Aguocha's recent attack on the deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, is a clear example of the negative impact of political rivalry and personal vendettas on the democratic process.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the deputy speaker can be seen making a friendly gesture towards the governor of Abia state, suggesting that he should return to his former party, the APC.

However, instead of interpreting this gesture in a positive light, Hon Obi Aguocha chose to twist the narrative and launch a scathing attack on Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu.

His unguarded utterances were clearly aimed at creating mischief and misleading the public, all in an attempt to score cheap political points and remain relevant in Abia state politics.

It is important to note that partisan lobbying and statements are a common practice in democratic societies.

Politicians often engage in such activities to promote their party's interests and gain support from key stakeholders.

In this case, the deputy speaker's gesture towards the governor can be seen as a strategic move to strengthen the APC's position in Abia state.

However, Hon Obi Aguocha's reaction to this gesture was completely uncalled for. Instead of engaging in a constructive dialogue or offering a counter argument, he chose to resort to personal attacks and inflammatory language.

This kind of behavior not only undermines the democratic process but also sets a dangerous precedent for future political discourse.

Let me conclude by saying that it is important for politicians to engage in healthy debates and discussions, rather than resorting to personal attacks and mudslinging.

Hon Obi Aguocha's unprovoked attack on the deputy speaker of the house of representatives is a clear example of how political rivalry can cloud judgment and lead to unnecessary conflict.

It is crucial for all stakeholders to uphold the principles of democracy and work towards building a more inclusive and respectful political environment.

With a population of over 385 million and a combined GDP of over $1 trillion, ECOWAS plays a crucial role in promoting economic integration, peace, and stability in the region.  In order to effectively carry out its mandate, the organization relies heavily on a well-managed, transparent, and accountable budget. And this is precisely why the ECOWAS Joint Committee on Administration, Finance and Budget, Public Accounts, Macroeconomic Policy, and Economic Research has kicked off a four-day meeting under the theme: “The Role of the ECOWAS Parliament in Community Budget Formulation and Monitoring”. The meeting, taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is being spearheaded by the Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee, Rt hon Benj
