The visit of the deputy speaker of the house of Representatives Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu to the bereaved families of the gallant soldiers who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident at Obikabia Junction in Aba on May 30, 2024, highlights the need for peace and stability in the region.
The actions of the lawless individuals responsible for this tragedy must be condemned in the strongest terms, and justice must be served.
In his statement, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu expressed his deep sorrow and sympathy for the families of the fallen soldiers.
He emphasized the importance of supporting and encouraging our soldiers and security agencies, especially in a time when their services are crucial for maintaining peace and security in the country.
The loss of these dedicated soldiers is not just a personal tragedy for their families, but a loss for the entire nation.
The Peace In South East Project (PISE - P), which aims to promote peace and stability in the region through non-kinetic means, has been working tirelessly to address the root causes of violence and conflict.
The actions of those who seek to undermine this project and perpetrate violence must be met with swift and decisive action.
It is essential that the perpetrators of this tragic incident are apprehended and brought to justice to prevent such acts from happening again.
The leadership of the military in the state, particularly Brigadier General Olusola Diya, has shown exemplary leadership during this challenging time.
Their dedication and commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region are commendable, and they deserve our full support in their efforts.
Let me conclude by saying that the tragic loss of the soldiers at Obikabia Junction serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform to protect our nation.
We must honor their memory by working towards lasting peace and security in Abia state, South East region, and Nigeria.
It is only through unity, determination, and a commitment to justice that we can ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
Let us stand together in solidarity to uphold the values of peace, justice, and security for all.
