According to insider sources, the governor is being treated at his home in Abuja with a sizable number of medical personnel on the ground to ensure he gets the best care possible. Nigerians in Enugu state have beheld a rare occasion after triplet brothers got married to triplet sisters in the state. The event took place over the weekend in Ngwo. Photos from the rare occasion is now going viral after hitting the Internet yesterday, June 7th. The triplet brothers, Kenechukwu, Chinedu and Chukwuebuka , got married to triplet sisters, Okwuoma , Dumalu, and Chinwe and the occasion  was witnessed by intimate family and friends . The Nigerian Senate, Tuesday, was on stand still as Chief Whip of the Senate , Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and former Governor of Abia State resumed for his Senatorial duties at the Red Chambers. SOUTH East Governors have mandated their various Houses of Assembly in the zone to commence enactment of state security laws that will give legal backing to the establishment of regional security in line with its joint security programme for the zone. Sudden influx of able bodied youths from different states in the North to states in the South East and South South is raising concern among people of the zones. Their movements became more worrisome as they are invading the states at a time the Federal and various state governments have restricted movements, with curfew even imposed. It is very curious why this sudden influx. Initially, it was reported that Almajiris displaced from the Northern states were making their way to the South East. But a closer look at these people showed they were no almajiris but youths ranging from 15 to 30 years and above which belied the earlier speculation. Incidentally, these youth are secretly entering the states as they hide under tucks conveying cattle and food stuff and some of them usually entered in the dead of the night. The question remains what their mission is, more so in a period interstate movements are banned and all the states in the country have closed their interstate boundaries

Despite the ban on inter state travels and the 8pm - 6pm curfew imposed by the federal government, northerners continue to seek new ways for migrating to the south east, hiding under live stock is now a common practice. Tragedy struck when a trailer loaded with cows, goats and a large number of alamajiris heading to the south east, in clear violation of the ban on inter state travels and the curfew already in place, lost control of the vehicle at the Lokoja bridge and fell into the river, killing most of the passengers. It was reported this morning as the gory images continue to trickle in.

The former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu is still in Kuje prison despite the ruling by the Supreme court nullifying his 12-year-conviction. On Friday, May 8, the Supreme Court nullified the December 2019 judgment which sentenced Orji Kalu and Ude Udeogo, to 12 years and 10 years imprisonment respectively, for diverting N7.6 billion belonging to the state government during their time in office. Kalu's associates expect him to be out of Kuje prison and reunited with his family, but this is yet to happen as the Apex Court did not issue any order for Kalu’s release because he did not file any application for such. The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Correctional Service, Jaafar Ahmed, has also refused to release Kalu because there was no order from the Supreme Court for his immediate release. When Kalu will be approaching the Court of Appeal to file for his release is not yet known.

Abia State Government on Monday discharged one of the two confirmed patients of Coronavirus from the isolation centre after testing negative to the disease two consecutive times while the other is in a stable medical condition. On Thursday, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said government was freeing 2,600 inmates in various prisons in a bid to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the country.  According to Aregbesola, inmates including those from 60 years and above, especially those suffering from ill-health likely to end in death, serving at least three years and have less than six months to serve, persons with mental issues, and with options of fine not exceeding N50,000, are among those to be considered for the state pardon.  “This amnesty will not apply to inmates sentenced for violent and extreme offences such as terrorism, kidnapping, armed banditry, rape, human trafficking, culpable homicide and so on,” Aregbesola said.  He went on to say that governors of the 36 states under whose jurisdiction most of the inmates were incarcerated will complete the exercise “in line with the federal principle”. Anambra State Govt begins the distribution of Bags of Rice as promised by Gov Obiano to cushion the effect of the lockdown occassioned by COVID19 pandemic. Each of the 181 Communities in the State are expected to receive 200 bags of rice to share to all the elderly persons aged 70 years and above. In addition to the bags of rice, the Governor ordered that each community should also receive bags of salt and cartons of tomatoes.

The Lagos State Police Command has released on bail the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party in the state in the 2019 gubernatorial election, Babatunde Gbadamosi, and his wife. The couple were released on Tuesday alongside a musician, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, after they perfected their bail conditions.
