The recent 6th EFCC/NJI Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges, held at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja, was a momentous event attended by esteemed dignitaries including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu C.O.N.

This workshop, organized jointly by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI), aimed to equip judges and justices with the necessary skills and knowledge to combat corruption in our society.

Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu, who was honoured to represent the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D, at the event, commended the EFCC and NJI for their collaborative efforts in organizing this timely workshop.

He emphasized the crucial role of the judiciary in upholding the integrity of our legal system, stating that it relies on individuals who not only possess legal expertise but also have an unyielding dedication to justice.

The presence of distinguished guests such as His Excellency, Sen. Kashim Shettima, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Deputy Senate President, Sen. Jibrin Barau, Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-ekun, and Former Secretary General Commonwealth Chief Emeka Anyaoku, added to the significance of the event.

In his address, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu stated that the House of Representatives remains committed to working hand in hand with the Judiciary through various legislative interventions to strengthen the integrity of the legal system.

This collaboration is essential in the fight against corruption, as it requires all arms of government to work together towards a common goal.

The workshop included an array of topics such as financial intelligence, anti-money laundering, and the role of judges in implementing anti-corruption laws.

These are crucial areas that require constant improvement and updating to effectively combat the menace of corruption in our society.

The importance of such capacity-building workshops cannot be overstated, as they equip our judicial system with the tools necessary to dispense justice fairly and effectively.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Speaker urged all participants to use the knowledge and skills acquired at the workshop to contribute towards building a society free from corruption.

Let me conclude by saying that the 6th EFCC/NJI Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges was a resounding success, thanks to the joint efforts of the EFCC and NJI and the attendance of esteemed dignitaries such as Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu.
