Senator George Akume is a prominent and respected Nigerian politician who has made significant contributions to the development and growth of the nation. 


Born on December 27, 1953, in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, Akume obtained his Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Ibadan.


Akume's political career began in 1998 when he was elected as the Governor of Benue State under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). 


During his tenure as governor, he implemented various policies and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and well-being of the people of Benue State. 


He prioritized education, agriculture, and infrastructure development, which helped in transforming the state and improving the lives of its residents.


One of Akume's notable achievements as governor was his focus on educational development. 


He initiated several projects to improve the quality of education in Benue State, including the establishment of the College of Education in Katsina-Ala and the University of Agriculture in Makurdi. 


These initiatives have significantly increased access to quality education and created more opportunities for aspiring students in the state.


Akume's dedication to agriculture cannot be overstated. He recognized the agricultural potential of Benue State and implemented various programs to support farmers and boost agricultural output. 


Under his leadership, the state witnessed increased investment in irrigation schemes, provision of agricultural inputs, and the introduction of modern farming techniques. 


These efforts have contributed to the growth of the agricultural sector in Benue State and improved the livelihoods of farmers.


In 2007, Senator George Akume was elected to represent the Benue North-West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Nigeria's legislative body. 


Throughout his tenure as a senator, he has continued to advocate for the welfare of his constituents and make meaningful contributions to national policies and debates.


As a senator, Akume has served as the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate and Chairman of several committees, including the Committee on Army and the Committee on Local and Foreign Debts. His leadership and commitment to good governance have earned him respect both within and outside his constituency.


Senator George Akume is well-regarded for his integrity, political acumen, and dedication to the service of the Nigerian people. 


His contributions to the development of Benue State and his work as a senator have left a lasting impact on the lives of many. He remains a pivotal figure in Nigerian politics, continually striving for progress and the betterment of his community.


George Akume; born 27 December 1953 is a Nigerian politician who is the current and 21st Secretary to the Government of the Federation, appointed by President Bola Tinubu. 


He served as minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs under President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2023.


Equipped with enormous administrative skills in governance, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu found him worthy and appointed him to be the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
