EROSION MENACE - OHABUIKE COURTESY VISIT TO DEPUTY SPEAKER HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

 




The Leadership of Ohabuike Amamba, a social cultural group in Uzuakoli Bende LGA of Abia State, led by the President General, Mr. Chilasa Kanu and Secretary General, Barr. Ikedieze Ekpe paid a courtesy visit, at Abuja, to the Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Right Honourable Benjamin Kalu representing Bende Federal Constituency. 


Other Ohabuike leaders who joined in the visit today are Chief Martins Ezeala (Chairman Abuja branch), Mr. Ikechukwu Okorie (Secretary Abuja Branch), High Chief Kingsley Iheanyi Enwere, Chief Ikenna Ariwodo, Barr. Alex Ononogbu. 


Speaking on behalf of Ohabuike Amamba, the PG congratulated the Deputy Speaker on his victroy at the polls, stating it was a victroy well-deserved giving his numerous developmental strides. He further congratulated him on his emergence as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly, saying it was not an easy feat. The PG presented gift items to the Deputy Speaker and stated that the eagle feather accompanying the gift items was given to honour him for his great achievements. 



At this juncture the PG presented the Amaewu erosion problem to the Deputy Speaker, calling for his urgent intervention while stating that the problem is currently threatening our collective existence.

Recall that in 2021 Rep Benjamin Kalu visited the Amaewu erosion site where he witnessed the devastation the erosion menace has caused in Amamba community in Uzuakoli, Bende LGA of Abia State.


In his response, the Deputy Speaker thanked the delegation for visiting him with the traditional gift items. He stated that Ohabuike Amamba and Uzuakoli is the first community in the entire Bende Federal Constituency to pay him congratulatory visit since his emergence as the Deputy Speaker. 



He further stated that even though Uzuakoli people did not vote for him during the election, he will not turn his back at them at this critical moment. He assured them that he will quickly write the appropriate office to get approval for work to commence at the erosion site. 


The Deputy Speaker also assured the visitors that he will ensure that a lasting solution is giving to the problem, as he won't sit and watch the erosion consume Amamba Uzuakoli. He thanked the delegation for their visit and assured them that something will be done to remedy the situation.




House of Representatives Cautions JAMB on Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma' Case

The  House of Representatives presided over by the deputy speaker Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu on Wednesday directed the Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB) to desist from any further action on the issue of the alleged manipulation of the Unified Tartary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result by a candidate, Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma. The House also called on JAMB to lift the sanction of barring the candidate from participating in the examination for three years. and called for independent examiners to examine the girl’s script to determine her score.  The House also resolved to set up an adhoc committee to investigate the whole matter and report back in three weeks  This followed the  adoption of a motion on a call to investigate the alleged manipulation of the UTME by JAMB by Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma sponsored by Hon.   Rep Philip Agbese (APC), the lawmaker representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadido Federal Constituency, says the 10th House of Representatives will make history under the leadership of Rt Hon Tajudeen Abbas and Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu. Agbese spoke to newsmen on Tuesday in reaction to the emergence of principal officers. Julius Ihonvbere (Edo, House Majority Leader), Halims Abdullahi (Kogi, Deputy Majority Leader), Bello Kumo (Gombe, Chief Whip), and Adewunmi Onanuga and (Ogun, Deputy Chief Whip) emerged via consensus. Abbas also read a letter from the Minority Caucus that detailed the names of the principal officers.
