The Abass / Kalu ticket did not just emerge from nowhere, it is a product of a long painstaking process of consultation before getting the consensus candidates for the position of speaker of the house of representatives and the deputy speaker of the house of representatives.

The process of consultations before getting the consensus candidates involved several steps:

The initial consultations typically began with informal consultations among members of the ruling party. These discussions aim to identify potential candidates and gauge their level of support.

The formal consultations followed immediately after a shortlist of potential candidates was drawn up and formal consultations were held with various stakeholders, including the party leadership, members of the house of representatives, and other political and civil society groups. These consultations aim to get a better sense of each candidate's suitability for the position.

Consensus building started after the consultations have been completed, the party leadership and other stakeholders worked towards building a consensus around Rt Hon Tajudeen Abass and Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu.

This involved compromise and negotiations, with other candidates being asked to step aside in favor of more experienced and capable hands who are deemed more suitable.

Announcement of the candidates were made immediately after consensus had been reached and the names of Rt Hon Tajudeen Abass and Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu were announced publicly. 

The candidates were typically and officially nominated by the ruling party prior to when a vote will be held in the house of representatives to confirm their appointment.

Overall, the process of consultation before getting consensus candidates for the positions of speaker of the house of representatives and deputy speaker of the house of representatives was designed to promote transparency, inclusivity, and accountability, while also ensuring that the most qualified individuals are selected for these important roles.
