F.G APPOINTS JOHN MIKEL OBI AS YOUTH AMBASSADOR

 



A former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, from Anambra State has been appointed as "Youth Ambassador" by the President Mohammadu Buhari- led Federal Government .

The appointment  we gathered was to inspire young Nigerians towards excellence.

This was made known at an event held at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos on Friday, which was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare.

According to the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media, John Joshua-Akanji, Mikel was described by the Minister as a “role model whose lasting legacies in football development has continued to have a positive impact on youths in the country.”

The Stoke City midfielder and former Chelsea player was assured of Federal Government support whenever he chooses to invest in the country.

Dare " Time will not permit me to say much about Mikel’s success as a footballer. He is our legend and a role model who has continued to impact the lives of youth positively.

“It is my pleasure to appoint you as Nigeria Youth Ambassador. It’s a new portfolio and your role as youth ambassador will be made known to Nigerians."

Responding, Mikel said," I feel highly honoured to be appointed as Youth Ambassador of this country, it is a great feeling.

I am happy with this partnership and I promise to do my best to encourage and inspire the youths towards national development, not just in football but in other sports like Basketball, boxing among others”.

NORTHERNERS BEG NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO LET BIAFRA GO

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, on Thursday, called on the National Assembly to suspend the review of the 1999 Constitution, describing it as ill-timed and uncalled for, particularly in the face of the growing agitation for Nigeria’s break-up. It also urged the National Assembly to invoke the doctrine of necessity to organize a Biafra referendum as the final step towards the separation of the Igbo from the rest of Nigeria. This was part of the presentation which CNG made before the leadership of the National Assembly against the backdrop of the disturbances created by certain interest groups in the South-East, in the form of the agitation for a separate State of Biafra. GENOCIDAL THREAT - FACEBOOK SLAMS BUHARI

Facebook, another social media platform, has removed a controversial statement posted via President Muhammadu Buhari’s official page. The President had on Tuesday threatened to treat insurrectionists and those attacking facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) like Nigerian soldiers treated the rebels during the civil war. Mr Buhari, a retired general fought during the war which claimed the lives of over one million persons. “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” he said.
