ASEPP COMMISERATES WITH HIGH CHIEF IKECHI EMENIKE ON THE DEATH OF THE MOTHER-IN-LAW

Last Friday, 24 hours before the final burial of the mother-in-law  of the ebullient and widely celebrated Abia politician and International business man, High Chief Ikechi Emenike, Professor Victor Ukaogo,  the convenor of Association of South east professors and professionals (ASEPP) paid a condolence visit  to the business tycoon at his country home. He was accompanied by Mr Chiana Azaribe, the coordinator of Ikechi Emenike Vanguard  Group and Professor Ukaogo's aide.

Prof. Ukaogo was one the early callers of the day and had a private discussion with the Abia politician who doubles as the Chairman of Council, University of Nigeria . The Professor of history and International relations condoled with him on the death of his inlaw and prayed that God receives her peaceful and gentle soul.

It's uncertain if the duo discussed other issues but it will be safe to assume that it was part of Professor Ukaogo's drive to show solidarity to eminent sons of the zone and solicit support from them  in view of the highly anticipated and upcoming inaugural meeting of the organization he heads. He had earlier in the week made similar visits to some high profile individuals in Enugu state. Although the cerebral Professor reputed to have marxists leanings ignored questions posed to him after the the meeting, it was Mr Azaribe who merely said that the University don was consulting Igbo stakeholders on how to properly and profitably channel the resilience of southeast professors and professionals in days ahead. His next port of call, we learnt will be Ebonyi state later  the day same friday where he will be joined by other executives of the Association.

NORTHERNERS BEG NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO LET BIAFRA GO

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, on Thursday, called on the National Assembly to suspend the review of the 1999 Constitution, describing it as ill-timed and uncalled for, particularly in the face of the growing agitation for Nigeria’s break-up. It also urged the National Assembly to invoke the doctrine of necessity to organize a Biafra referendum as the final step towards the separation of the Igbo from the rest of Nigeria. This was part of the presentation which CNG made before the leadership of the National Assembly against the backdrop of the disturbances created by certain interest groups in the South-East, in the form of the agitation for a separate State of Biafra. Briefing journalists in Abuja after the presentation, CNG Spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, noted that the Biafra agitation in the Southeast had turned violent, alleging that the aim of the unrest in the region was to instigate reprisals by northerners against people from other parts of the country.
