COVID-19: MR NWABUEZE IHEONUNEKWU DOLES OUT GIFTS TO UHU NDI OWORIE COMMUNITY IN AMAMBA UZUAKOLI, ABIA STATE. It was indeed a joyous Saturday in Uhu Ndi Oworie Community as Mr Nwabueze Iheonunekwu distributed bags of rice, cartons of Tummy-Tummy noodles, power oil, onions satchet tomatoes to the community to help cushion the effects of the lockdown occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic. Mr Nwabueze Iheonunekwu currently resides in America and in his philanthropic nature has decided to alleviate the plight of the community brought about by the covid 19 lockdown. This is the second set of food items being sent to the community by Mr Nwabueze Iheonunekwu. On Thursday, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said government was freeing 2,600 inmates in various prisons in a bid to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the country.  According to Aregbesola, inmates including those from 60 years and above, especially those suffering from ill-health likely to end in death, serving at least three years and have less than six months to serve, persons with mental issues, and with options of fine not exceeding N50,000, are among those to be considered for the state pardon.  “This amnesty will not apply to inmates sentenced for violent and extreme offences such as terrorism, kidnapping, armed banditry, rape, human trafficking, culpable homicide and so on,” Aregbesola said.  He went on to say that governors of the 36 states under whose jurisdiction most of the inmates were incarcerated will complete the exercise “in line with the federal principle”. Anambra State Govt begins the distribution of Bags of Rice as promised by Gov Obiano to cushion the effect of the lockdown occassioned by COVID19 pandemic. Each of the 181 Communities in the State are expected to receive 200 bags of rice to share to all the elderly persons aged 70 years and above. In addition to the bags of rice, the Governor ordered that each community should also receive bags of salt and cartons of tomatoes.

The Lagos State Police Command has released on bail the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party in the state in the 2019 gubernatorial election, Babatunde Gbadamosi, and his wife. The couple were released on Tuesday alongside a musician, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, after they perfected their bail conditions. The trio had on Monday turned themselves in at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, and were detained after the police asked them and others, who attended a birthday party organised by a popular actress, Funke Akindele-Bello, aka Jenifa, to report at the SCIID. In an effort to provide succour for his constituents as a result of Coronavirus pandemic in Abia State, member representing  umuahia south  State constituency Hon. Barr. Jerry Uzosike on Thursday distributed food items and protective materials to his constituents to cushion the effects of hunger on the people and also to protect them from contracting the deadly coronavirus during the partial lockdown of the state. The handover of the items was done at the  umuahia   south  local government headquarters to the Council chairman who in turn instructed the Covid19 committee setup by the Council to ensure equitable distribution of the items which includes 50 bags of rice, 70 cartons of Indomie noodles, 200 bottles of alcohol based hand sanitizers, 50 Wash hand buckets to be placed in all the 28 Primary Healthcare Centers In  umuahia   south  and 200 face masks for the health workers, he also made a cash donation of half a million naira to be shared to 100 indigent citizens from  umuahia

The Abia state  government  says it has mass-produced face masks that will end the importation of the product into the country even as the deadly COVID-19 continues to hit nations hard globally. The governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu in a television interview on Friday said the state has shipped the first batch sample of the product to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Abuja, for approval for nationwide distribution, taking into account the necessary health standard. “They are medical items which you must sanitize in a specific way. We have used the recommended items to sanitize them and I hope it will meet the requirement of the NCDC” he said. He stated that the state is strategic in its lockdown, saying those who reside in rural communities are allowed to go to the farm, appearing in a face mask. Addressing newsmen, the State Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa, disclosed that  the state government will fumigate major markets in the state before they are reopened.   Engr. Ohaa maintained that the state government is committed to ensuring that COVID-19 does not pose a threat to the state, stressing that all efforts are being made to achieve that. The Chief Fire Officer further disclosed that  the fumigation train will move to Obiagu axis of the metropolis on Friday and go to Nsukka zone on Monday, etc.   He pointed out that they will use the opportunity to sensitise and enlighten the people on the deadly viral disease as well as associated preventive measures.
